A ninth-inning explosion by the Giants, who smashed a pair of two-run homers, wrecked the Phillies, 5-4. Greg Luzinski hit a homer and two singles, driving in two runs, to help the Phillies take a 4-1 lead, but the Giants opened the ninth with a single by Dave Kingman and homer by Dave Rader to kayo Ken Brett.

Mac Scarce walked Willie McCovey before yielding the mound to Billy Wilson, who induced Bobby Bonds to hit into a double play. However, Tito Fuentes then singled and Garry Maddox unloaded a homer to win the game for the Giants. [The Sporting News]
