After being held hitless by Jon Matlack for five innings, the Reds erupted for four runs in the sixth and defeated the Mets, 5-0, behind the three-hit hurling of Jack Billingham. Joe Morgan walked with one out and stole second before Johnny Bench flied out. The Mets then passed Tony Perez intentionally in a move that backfired when Dave Concepcion and Bobby Tolan followed with run-scoring singles. Concepcion also scored on a wild pitch.
