John Hiller, relieving Jim Perry with the bases loaded and two out in the sixth inning, struck out Winston Llenas and held the Angels scoreless the rest of the way to preserve the Tigers' 5-2 victory. After the Tigers started the game with two unearned runs, Frank Robinson homered with a man on base to tie the score in the Angels' half.

The Tigers went ahead to stay with a run-scoring double by Ed Brinkman in the second. Duke Sims doubled and Norm Cash singled for another run in the fourth before Brinkman ended the scoring with a homer in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
