Reserve catcher Bob Montgomery hit his second homer of the game in the 10th inning to give the Red Sox a 5-4 victory over the Royals in a sweep of the three-game series. Orlando Cepeda homered with a man on base for the Red Sox in the fourth to tie the score at 2-2. After the Red Sox picked up another run in the fifth, Montgomery hit for the circuit in the seventh, but the Royals forced the game into overtime with a two-run homer by Jim Wohlford with two out in the ninth.
