Steve Stone received credit for his first A. L. victory, with the help of Terry Forster, when the White Sox defeated the Orioles, 3-2. Stone was tagged for a homer by Tommy Davis in the fourth inning, but the White Sox bounced back against Jim Palmer with two runs in the fifth on singles by Tony Muser, Ed Herrmann and Eddie Leon and a sacrifice fly by Jorge Orta. Pat Kelly singled in the eighth, stole second and scored what proved to be the deciding run on a single by Bill Sharp.

Forster, who had replaced Stone in the sixth, faced deep trouble when the Orioles loaded the bases with one out in the ninth. After a run scored on a passed ball, Forster bore down and struck out both Larry Brown and Andy Etchebarren. [The Sporting News]
