After falling behind in the first inning, 5-0, the Rangers came back to defeat the Yankees, 7-5. The Yankees knocked out lloyd Allen and Mike Paul in the first while scoring their runs on only three singles, plus four walks and a wild pitch. Don Stanhouse halted the runaway and held the Yankees scoreless the rest of the way with last-out help from Charlie Hudson.

The Rangers caught up against Fritz Peterson, who was chased in the fourth inning, and then posted their winning margin against Lindy McDaniel in the eighth. Rico Carty singled and scored on a double by Alex Johnson, who later crossed the plate on an error by Graig Nettles. [The Sporting News]
