Snapping a five-game losing streak, the Royals broke a 2-2 tie with five runs in the fourth inning and defeated the Yankees, 7-4. John Mayberry rapped a homer to help effect the tie before the Royals put together their big inning on five hits, two walks and a sacrifice fly. Freddie Patek drove in two runs with a double. The Yankees picked up their final pair in the ninth when Graig Nettles doubled and Thurman Munson homered. [The Sporting News]
