With Carl Yastrzemski and Orlando Cepeda swinging big bats, the Red Sox defeated the Angels, 6-5. Yastrzemski homered with two men on base in the first inning and, after the Angels came back to tie the score with the aid of a two-run smash by Frank Robinson, Cepeda hit for the circuit in the sixth.

The Red Sox added a tally in the seventh and then scored what proved to be the winning run in the eighth when Yastrzemski doubled, stole third and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Cepeda. The Angels fell short with a two-run homer by Vada Pinson in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
