Vida Blue, who had lost five times in the Oakland Coliseum this year, gained his first home victory of the season when the Athletics defeated the Yankees, 4-2. Blue pitched seven innings and Darold Knowles finished.

The A's jumped on Steve Kline for three runs in the second on two walks, singles by Deron Johnson, Joe Rudi and Mike Hegan and a sacrifice fly by Bert Campaneris. Singles by Bill North and Sal Bando around an error added a run in the eighth. Both Yankee tallies were unearned on two errors by Campaneris in the third. [The Sporting News]
