Three players, Darrell Evans, Ron Reed and Frank Tepedino, batted in four runs apiece as the Braves piled up 17 hits and walloped the Pirates, 18-3. Evans hit a grand-slam homer in the fourth inning. Reed helped his own cause with three singles. Tepedino, who entered the game as a pinch-runner in the fourth and remained in the lineup at first base, collected his first two hits in an Atlanta uniform.

Richie Hebner homered to account for all of the Pirates' runs in the fourth before the Braves came back with six in their half, four scoring on Evans' slam. Another six-run outburst followed in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
