With a bases-loaded triple by Paul Blair as the big blow, the Orioles exploded for seven runs in the eighth inning and defeated the Royals, 8-3. John Mayberry homered for the Royals and Tommy Davis for the Orioles, who trailed, 3-1, before their eruption.

Bobby Grich led off the eighth with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Davis. Earl Williams and Don Baylor singled and Brooks Robinson and Elrod Hendricks walked to force in the tying run.
