The Twins scored four runs, two of them unearned, on only two hits in the first two innings and defeated the Rangers, 7-3. In the first, Rod Carew walked, Larry Hisle was safe on an error and two runs scored on a single by Harmon Killebrew and sacrifice fly by Bobby Darwin.

George Mitterwald was hit by a pitch in the second and Jim Holt doubled. Mitterwald scored on an error and Holt counted on a sacrifice fly by Carew. Mitterwald homered in the sixth and the Twins finished their scoring with two more unearned runs in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
