Bob Gibson hit his first homer of the season and 23rd of his career for his own winning run while pitching the Cardinals to a 4-3 victory over the Expos. The Cardinals started the scoring with a two-run homer by Tim McCarver in the first inning and added a tally on doubles by Jim Dwyer and Joe Torre in the third. After hitting his homer in the fourth, Gibson survived his only shaky stanza, giving up the Expos' runs on four hits in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
