Willie Mays drove in three runs with a double and John Milner followed with a homer in a second-inning burst that carried the Mets to a 5-4 victory over the Pirates. Singles by Jim Fregosi and George Stone around a walk to Ron Hodges loaded the bases and set the stage for Mays' double. Then, after two out, Milner hit his homer. The Pirates came back with three runs in their half on a homer by Richie Zisk, a walk, single by Rennie Stennett, a sacrifice and double by Gene Clines. Stone then checked the Pirates until giving up an unearned run in the ninth on a two-base error by Fregosi and two-out single by Clines. [The Sporting News] |
