A three-run homer by Bobby Murcer enabled the Yankees to defeat the Tigers, 3-2, and provided Sam McDowell with his second straight victory since being acquired from the Giants. Murcer's homer, coming after singles by Roy White and Matty Alou in the third inning, pinned Woodie Fryman with his seventh straight setback.
