Shut out in the first game, 7-0, the White Sox came roaring back to wallop the Athletics, 11-1, in the second game of a doubleheader. Vida Blue allowed only four singles in pitching the A's shutout. Joe Rudi homered with two men on base in support of Blue and Gene Tenace hit a two-run double.

In the nightcap, Ed Herrmann led the White Sox with the greatest game at bat in his major league career, driving in seven runs with a homer, double and single. Herrmann homered with two men on base in the second inning, knocked in two runs with his double in the sixth and added a pair with a single in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
