A tie-breaking homer by Carlton Fisk in the eighth inning gave the Red Sox a 2-1 victory over the Tigers, who went down to their eighth straight defeat and fifth in a row by a margin of one run. The Tigers' lone tally came on a homer by Al Kaline in the fourth inning. The Red Sox tied the score with singles by Danny Cater, Luis Aparicio and Rick Miller in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
