Ken McMullen hit his third homer in three games since returning to the Dodgers' lineup to help defeat the Padres, 3-2. McMullen's drive in the second inning broke a 1-1 tie and the Dodgers added an unearned run in the seventh for what proved to be the deciding marker.

Steve Yeager was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored when Cito Gaston dropped a fly by Bill Buckner. Claude Osteen, with ninth-inning help from Jim Brewer, posted his seventh straight victory and 10th of the season. [The Sporting News]
