Although still weakened from a recent bout with the flu, Sonny Siebert pitched six scoreless innings on a yield of six hits and gained credit for the Rangers' 4-2 victory over the Athletics. Bill Gogolewski relieved in the seventh. The Rangers also had to call on both Mike Paul and Steve Foucault in the ninth when the A's scored their two runs.

The Rangers rapped Ken Holtzman for three runs in the third on a single by Dave Nelson, pass to Toby Harrah, single by Alex Johnson and double by Jeff Burroughs. Harrah homered for the other run in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
