. . . where the 1970s live forever!

After failing to hold a 5-0 lead, the Cardinals went down to defeat when Mike Rogodzinski hit a pinch-homer with a man on base in the eighth inning to carry the Phillies to a 7-6 victory. The Cardinals built up their lead with the aid of a two-run homer by Tim McCarver before the Phillies came back with three runs in the sixth.

Mike Anderson then walked in the seventh, Cesar Tovar tripled and Denny Doyle singled to tie the score. The Cardinals went ahead again with a homer by Ted Simmons in the eighth, but in the Phillies' half Tommy Hutton singled and Rogodzinski delivered his winning blow. [The Sporting News]
