Ron Santo, who had a hand in all of the Cubs' runs in a 6-1 victory over the Expos in the first game, hit a homer in the ninth inning to tie the score at 3-3 in the second game, which was suspended after 12 innings because of darkness. Santo drove in four runs and scored two with a double and two singles in the lidlifter. In the nightcap, the Cubs took a 2-0 lead before the Expos pulled even with homers by Bob Bailey and Ken Singleton in the seventh inning. Ron Hunt broke the tie with a run-scoring single in the ninth, but Santo saved the Cubs from defeat with his round-tripper in the home half. [The Sporting News] |
