. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Vida Blue yielded only three hits in 7 2/3 innings before yielding to Rollie Fingers, who completed the Athletics' 3-2 victory over the Royals. Blue gave up a run in the seventh and was removed after Fran Healy homered for the Royals in the eighth. The A's scored all their runs in the second. Deron Johnson and Gene Tenace singled and Ray Fosse walked to load the bases.

Manny Trillo singled in his first time at bat in the major leagues, driving in Johnson. Tenace scored on a sacrifice fly by Bert Campaneris. Steve Busby then picked Trillo off first base, but the A's rookie kept the rundown going long enough to allow Fosse to sneak home from third. [The Sporting News]
