Although collecting only three hits, the Braves won the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 3-2, before the Dodgers came back to gain an 8-3 victory in the second game. Braves' hits in the lidlifter included a homer by Mike Lum in the first inning and another by Darrell Evans in the eighth. In between, their other hit, a single by Sonny Jackson in the third, led to a run on a throwing error by Bill Russell and infield out by Dusty Baker.

Davey Lopes, who had three hits for the Dodgers in the opener, rapped three more in the nightcap, plus a sacrifice fly. Lopes tripled in the first inning when the Dodgers scored two runs. Two more counted in the third on doubles by Willie Davis and Willie Crawford and a bases-loaded walk to Chris Cannizzaro. Lopes hit his sacrifice fly in the eighth and the Dodgers then iced the outcome with their final three runs on five singles in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
