A grand-slam homer by Bobby Darwin powered the Twins to a 4-0 victory over the Angels behind the pitching of Bert Blyleven, who posted his sixth shutout of the season. Nolan Ryan matched Blyleven in their duel until falling victim to Darwin's blow in the eighth inning. George Mitterwald walked to open the stanza and Jim Holt, attempting to sacrifice, beat out a bunt. Rod Carew struck out and Jerry Terrell forced Holt, but Tony Oliva walked to set the stage for Darwin's slam. [The Sporting News]
