The Orioles, who had won five straight games, were stopped with four hits and lost to the Tigers, 4-1. Mike Strahler was the winner with help from John Hiller, who relieved in the eighth inning and picked up his 16th save. The Tigers, after filling the bases in the first on two walks and an error by Brooks Robinson, scored two unearned runs on a single by Duke Sims. Mickey Stanley homered in the second and Tony Taylor singled to drive in Ed Brinkman in the fourth.
