. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Jon Matlack was the winner of a five-hit duel with Burt Hooton when the Mets defeated the Cubs, 2-1. Willie Mays doubled home the Mets' first run after a single by Ted Martinez and a sacrifice in the third inning. Ken Boswell walked in the fourth, went to third on a single by Rusty Staub and beat the throw home on George Theodore's slow roller to Ron Santo.

The Cubs counted their run in the sixth on a single by Don Kessinger and double by Jose Cardenal. The Cubs threatened again in the eighth, but Matlack struck out Santo with two men on base. [The Sporting News]
