. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Yanks' Fritz Peterson allowed only two hits, but one was a homer by Dwight Evans, enough for the Red Sox to edge New York, 1-0, behind the eight-hit hurling of John Curtis. Evans' bases-empty blow came with two out in the fifth. The only other hit off Peterson was Rico Petrocelli's one-out single in the second. Curtis, who walked one and hit one, was backed by three double plays.

The frustrated Yankees, who had won 13 straight at home, loaded the bases with two out in the ninth, but Curtis got Felipe Alou on a popup to end the game. New York had not scored a run for Peterson in his last three decisions. All hits off Curtis were singles. [The Sporting News]
