. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Tigers first used Frank Howard and then switched to Gates Brown as their designated hitter and each hit a two-run homer in a 7-5 victory over the Indians. Brown delivered the winning blow, connecting for the circuit after a single by Bill Freehan in the 11th inning.

The Indians took a 4-0 lead with the aid of round-trippers by John Ellis and Buddy Bell before Howard provided the Tigers' first two runs with his homer in the fourth. After the Indians picked up a run in the sixth, the Tigers tied the score in their half on a walk to Aurelio Rodriguez with the bases loaded and two-run double by Ed Brinkman. Bob Miller was the winner in relief, allowing only one hit in the last 5 1/3 innings. [The Sporting News]
