Cookie Rojas drove in five runs, including three with a homer, to pace the Royals to a 12-10 victory in a slugfest with the Twins. The Royals scored four runs in the third inning, two on a double by Rojas and two on another double by John Mayberry. Freddie Patek batted in two runs with a single in the sixth before Rojas hit his homer.

The Royals then added three runs in the eighth, two counting on a single by Lou Piniella, to enable them to stand off a late rush by the Twins, who scored eight runs in the last four frames. Larry Hisle had four hits, including a two-run homer. [The Sporting News]
