Amos Otis rapped a homer and three singles to lead the Royals' 20-hit attack in a 12-1 walloping of the Tigers. The Royals scored their first five runs off Joe Coleman, who was knocked out in the second inning. Kurt Bevacqua plated a pair with a double.

With Fred Scherman on the mound in the sixth, the Royals erupted for four more runs. Cookie Rojas singled and Otis and John Mayberry followed with consecutive homers.
