With two strikes, Dwain Anderson laid down a squeeze bunt for the tie-breaking run as the Padres scored twice in the eighth inning to defeat the Cubs, 4-2. Dave Roberts singled, took third on another single by Fred Kendall and scored when Anderson, formerly with the Cardinals, bunted for his first RBI of the season.
