The Yankees handed Arizona State star Eddie Bane his first defeat, beating the Twins, 7-0, behind the four-hit hurling of Mel Stottlemyre. Bane was tagged for three runs in the third inning on singles by Felipe Alou and Gene Michael, an infield out by Matty Alou and homer by Roy White. The Yankees added their other runs off relievers Dave Goltz and Ken Sanders. [The Sporting News]
