After a pinch-homer by Paul Casanova tied the score in the ninth inning, the Braves erupted for three runs in the 10th with pinch-hitter Norm Miller providing a key double to defeat the Phillies, 6-3. Homers by Willie Montanez and Bill Robinson helped the Phillies take a 3-1 lead, but Steve Carlton blew that advantage in the ninth when Johnny Oates walked and Casanova hit his first homer of the season.

Barry Lersch was the loser in relief in the 10th. Pinch-hitter Frank Tepedino walked and, after a sacrifice, Oates was passed intentionally. Miller then batted for Tom House and doubled to drive in the tie-breaking tally. Two extra runs followed on an infield hit by Ralph Garr and sacrifice fly by Marty Perez. [The Sporting News]
