Managerial juggling worked out to the advantage of the Orioles when Bob Reynolds saved a 5-4 victory over the White Sox by inducing Joe Keough to ground into a double play with the bases loaded in the ninth inning. The Orioles built up a 5-1 lead with the aid of a homer by Paul Blair before the White Sox kayoed Jim Palmer with a homer by Bill Melton, double by Ken Buddy Henderson and run-scoring single by Bradford.

Grant Jackson, relieving, gave up singles by Luis Alvarado and Jorge Orta for another run. Leon then sacrificed and Pat Kelly was passed intentionally to load the bases. When Johnny Jeter was sent up to bat for Tony Muser, the Orioles brought Reynolds to the mound. Keough then batted for Jeter and hit into a DP. [The Sporting News]
