Two consecutive wild pitches by Dave Sells with the bases loaded and two out in the ninth inning gave the Tigers a 2-1 victory over the Angels. Rudy Meoli hit his first major league homer to account for the Angels' runs in the second. Rudy May started for the Angels and gave up a single by Ike Brown in the ninth for the 10th hit off his deliveries. After one out, Willie Horton walked and Jim Northrup ran for him. Ed Brinkman forced Northrup for the second out. Mickey Stanley walked on four pitches to load the bases.

Sells, taking over in relief, threw his first wild pitch with Gates Brown at bat, allowing Ike Brown to score. After an intentional pass to Brown reloaded the bases, Sells uncorked another wild pitch on his first delivery to Al Kaline and Brinkman crossed the plate. [The Sporting News]
