. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Dodgers drew 53,870, their largest crowd since June 28, 1970, and entertained the throng with a 7-3 victory over the Cubs in a game that saw Al Downing get off to a wild start and then strike out seven batters in succession. The Cubs, who had had not scored against Dodger pitching for 29 innings, ended their drouth in the first when Downing walked two batters, hit another and uncorked a wild pitch. The veteran lefthander then pulled himself together and went on his strikeout streak.

The Dodgers took a 2-1 lead in the second on a run-scoring double by Ron Cey and an error. Cey accounted for another RBI with a sacrifice fly in the third. Bill Russell added a run with a single and Downing then assured himself of victory with a double, driving in two runs. Joe Ferguson added the Dodgers' final tally with a homer in the fourth.
