After failing to hold a 4-0 lead, the Red Sox scored twice in the eighth inning on a single by Luis Aparicio, triple by Carl Yastrzemski and single by Orlando Cepeda to defeat the Rangers, 6-5. Tommy Harper homered for the Red Sox in the first. Three more runs followed in the second, two counting on a double by Doug Griffin.

The Rangers caught up at 4-4 with the aid of a two-run homer by Bill Sudakis. After the Red Sox broke the tie, the Rangers fell short with one run in the ninth on singles by Dave Nelson, Vic Harris and Alex Johnson. [The Sporting News]
