Reggie Smith, who had been out of action for 10 days with a leg injury, made a smashing return to the Red Sox lineup by hitting two homers, his second drive coming in the 11th inning to beat the White Sox, 9-8. Smith's first homer came with a man on base in the first inning. The Red Sox also had a three-run clout by Tommy Harper, while Johnny Jeter, Ken Henderson and Ed Herrmann rapped round-trippers for the White Sox.
