In an action-packed finish, the Indians staved off the Angels, 9-8. The Indians held a 6-1 lead after seven innings. Three of their runs were unearned and two others came on a homer by John Lowenstein. The Angels began their comeback with a three-run homer by Bob Oliver in the eighth. The Indians matched that with three runs in the ninth, including a round-tripper by John Ellis with a man on base. The Angels then staged a storm in their half of the ninth and scored four runs, three crossing the plate on a homer by Frank Robinson, before their rally fell short. [The Sporting News] |
