Rich Folkers turned in the first complete game of his major league career and beat the Giants, 2-1, to give the red-hot Cardinals their fifth straight victory and 12th in the last 17 games. The Giants scored their run in the first inning on a double by Bobby Bonds, a balk and an infield out by Tito Fuentes.

The Cardinals came back with their pair in the second. Luis Melendez singled and, on a hit-and-run play, scored from first base on a single by Bernie Carbo. After advancing to third on a single by Ken Reitz, Carbo crossed the plate while the Giants were executing a double play on a grounder by Mike Tyson. [The Sporting News]
