Designated hitter Tommy Davis came through with the winning single in the ninth inning when the Orioles scored three runs to defeat the Angels, 5-3. Leroy Stanton put the Angels ahead, 3-2, with a homer in the eighth. The Orioles loaded the bases in the ninth on a walk to Mark Belanger, single by Merv Rettenmund and safe bunt by Paul Blair. Davis then hit his single, driving in two runs, and an extra tally subsequently followed on a sacrifice fly by Don Baylor. [The Sporting News]
