A stolen base by Cookie Rojas in the fifth inning led to the run that provided the Royals with a 5-4 victory over the Brewers. A crowd of 36,032 turned out for the game to watch the inauguration of owner Ewing Kauffman's water display, which cost $750,000 to build.

Fran Healy hit a two-run homer for the Royals in the fourth to break a 2-2 tie. Rojas singled in the fifth, moved up on an infield out by Amos Otis and swiped third. After a pass to John Mayberry, Rojas scored what proved to be the winning run when Rick Reichardt forced Mayberry. The Brewers fell short with their final two runs in the eighth on a homer by Bob Coluccio with a man on base. [The Sporting News]
