Doubles by Pete Rose and Dan Driessen with two out in the eighth inning produced three runs and carried the Reds to a 6-4 victory over the Expos. Steve Renko, pitching for the Expos, had a 4-3 lead and had retired 18 batters in a row before ending his string by walking Hal King with two away in the eighth. Darrel Chaney ran for King and scored the tying run on Rose's double. After an intentional pass to Joe Morgan, Driessen hit his double to drive in the winning pair.
