Tom Seaver gave up a run in the first inning, but the Mets' ace righthander was invincible thereafter in defeating the Cardinals, 2-1. Lou Brock greeted Seaver with a leadoff single and stole second. After taking third on a safe bunt by Ted Sizemore, Brock scored while the Mets were erasing Sizemore and Joe Torre on a double-play grounder. John Milner homered to tie the score in the fifth and the Mets put across the winning run against Rick Wise in the sixth when Felix Millan singled and raced home on a double by Rusty Staub.
