Exploding for seven runs in the first inning, the Twins defeated the Athletics, 8-2, to complete the sweep of the three-game series. Rod Carew and Bobby Darwin singled and George Mitterwald homered to account for the first three runs. A walk to Larry Hisle, double by Joe Lis and single by Danny Thompson added two tallies and kayoed Dave Hamilton. After Horacio Pina relieved, Steve Brye smashed his first homer of the season for another pair of runs to climax the Twins' outburst. [The Sporting News]
