Pitching a three-hitter, Jim Palmer gained his fifth straight victory when the Orioles defeated the Indians, 5-1. Charlie Spikes homered in the eighth inning to deprive Palmer of a shutout. The Orioles decided the outcome early with four runs in the first inning and added their other tally with a homer by Earl Williams in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
