The Cubs were held to only two hits by Wayne Twitchell and lost to the Phillies, 2-0. Twitchell's duel with Burt Hooton was decided in the seventh inning. With one out, Bob Boone doubled. The Cubs passed Denny Doyle intentionally in an attempt to set up a double play, but Craig Robinson foiled the move with a single, scoring Boone.
