With batting support from Hal McRae, Steve Busby triumphed over 20-game winner Wilbur Wood as the Royals defeated the White Sox, 4-2. McRae tripled after singles by Rick Reichardt and Lou Piniella in the second inning. Singles by Freddie Patek and Cookie Rojas around a wild pitch added a run in the third before McRae wrapped up the Royals' scoring with a homer in the fourth.
