Coming out of the bullpen for his first start since 1967, Darold Knowles combined with Rollie Fingers to pitch the Athletics to a 6-2 victory over the Twins. Knowles allowed four hits before being lifted after Bobby Darwin singled in the sixth inning. Fingers gave up one hit the rest of the way.

Gene Tenace hit a homer for the A's and Bert Campaneris broke out of an 0-for-19 slump with two doubles, scoring one run and driving in another. Ted Kubiak singled in the fifth inning for his first hit in 35 official trips since June 19. [The Sporting News]
