After a fight that resulted in the banishment of Thurman Munson and Carlton Fisk, the Red Sox scored with two out in the ninth inning to defeat the Yankees, 3-2. Munson doubled in the Yankees' half of the ninth and, after an intentional pass to Felipe Alou, advanced to third on an infield out.

Gene Michael then attempted a suicide squeeze bunt but missed the ball, and Munson was tagged out as he smashed into Fisk at the plate. An exchange of fisticuffs followed and both battlers were ejected from the game. With two away in the Red Sox half, Bob Montgomery singled, Rick Miller walked and Mario Guerrero singled off Sparky Lyle to drive in the winning run. [The Sporting News]
